Alimatou

I've got a Gambian name! All the taobabs end up getting one, but it's usually at the end of their training (where the rest of the VSO volunteers are right now), but because I'm not there, I had to find my own way to getting a Gambian name. Yesterday at work, I had to go around to the Health Departments and be introduced, and people found my name very hard to pronounce. "Gillian" ended up being "Julien," "Gilly," or some other version of my name. No one can pronounce it. (When I lived in Luxembourg, I was called "Silia" because they couldn't pronounce my name there either.) So, today when I was saying my good mornings, I asked someone who could not pronounce my name to give me a Gambian name. He took my email address for some reason, and then got a text message from someone with the name "Alimatou." I asked what it meant, and I guess it doesn't really have a meaning, but i love the name. You pronounce it "A-LEm-a-tu." ** Last night I didn't have any nightmares, thank god. The Lariam gives me horrible dreams. Unfortuantely, tomorrow I have to take my weekly pill, which probably means more nightmares. I don't know how to get them to stop. Anyone have any sure fire ways to rid yourself of nightmares? |
