Severed Goat's Head
|last| |next|
Another trip to the doctor's today, making sure that my kidney infection is cleared up. It is. They also told me that I tested positive for E. Coli last week. I wasn't informed of this at the time. After the doctor's visit, I took the bush taxi's into work, and it was swealtering hot. Well over 30 degrees. I then, had the distinct pleasure of walking past a recently severed goat's head. I gagged. They should warn us foreigners of that sort of stuff. It had flies and blood on it. But that's what they do here. There's a VSO Volunteer leaving next week, after three years of being here, and the locals are throwing a party for her. They've been raising a goat, washing it every day, feeding it, loving it, and tomorrow they will masacre it. Slaughter it... but not in the "humaine" ways that we Western folk do it- no sir- they take knives and things and slash it up until it dies. I'm invited to the party. I'll go after the bloody murder of the poor little goat. I get choked up just thinking about it. A lot of us toubabs are invited to The British High Comission for dinner and drinks next week. I even have an offical invitation. It says to dress "casual," but I think some of us are going to buy some African wear, and dress up a little. Although we're told that African dress looks stupid on toubabs, I think it'd be a nice gesture, and give us a reason to buy it. The clothing here is beautiful... along with everything else.
