(2003-09-24) I've Moved!

|last| |next|

I've moved into my house. Last night was the first night there. Jinny actually helped me clean up a bit.

Yes, so yesterday night when I arrived, I went in, fully expecting there to be no changes, but instead, I found the moss nets all fixed, a new fan, and new plastic sheeting on all the floors (including the kitchen and hallway). They still haven't done anything to my bedroom, but they did remove the cockroach heaven of a spare mattress elsewhere, which makes the place seem a little less dirty.

So, we cleaned and cleaned... and found that one of the chairs that were in my living room had a crazy amount of infestation of spider/cockroach/god-knows-what-else eggs underneath it. She and I screamed and were totally grossed out. Horrible.

For some reason, I keep finding dead earthworms on the floor. I'm not sure where they come from, or why they're dead (lack of earth dirt, perhaps?), but hopefully they'll disappear just as quickly as they came.

The maid should be good at that sort of thing.

The cockroaches are still a problem. I'm quickly running out of Bop (insect killer), so I'm going to have to go out and buy some more. I'm told that the cockroaches will disappear soon, and they fucking better, because I've found more of the dark brown (huge!) ones. Those things take so long to die, and I feel hypnotized whenever I spray them. Squiggle squiggle, twitch twitch. I can't NOT watch them die.

There are a couple of mosques around my house, and I was woken up this morning at 4:40am by chanting and praying. I wasn't impressed. And because of all the chanting and praying, the roosters woke up and decided that it was time to cock-a-doodle-doo (isn't there a better term for that?! I feel like I'm five years old when I say that). That, and the loud thunder and lightening storm around midnight last night did not allow for a sound sleep.

This morning, I was tired. I was able to wake up a bit more when I reached for my moisturizer and a HUGE cockroach ran across it. Not just one of the small ones, either... one of the big black fuckers that take forever to die.

It's been nearly four weeks since I landed on this continent, and I'm sure it'll be another four months before I'm finally used to living with this many creepy crawlies. They never used to bother me, but damn, these bugs are gross.
