Ain't No Fun
|last| |next|
Today was perfect. My first swim in the warm Atlantic (though, it's not my fault, because there aren't enough strong swimmers around for me to feel comfortable going swimming with. The rip tides here kill people a lot, so it's very dangerous to swim alone- so I won't do it), all day at the beach, a strong wind and cool temperature. I have my friend Angela visiting me. She's supposed to be at her placement, but because of a toothache, is down in the Kombos where the dentists are. She'll be staying with me for the next week or more. She's bestever, and we always have lots of fun. She and I went out last night on a quest for bread. About seven or eight little boys decided to help us (hopeless) toubabs and joined in the search for bread. After five stores, they eventually found loaves of bread, and for a thank you, we bought two extra loaves and gave it to them. They were supposed to share. But the bigger kids got ahold of the loaves and ran away with them. Then everyone started to fight. So, Angela and I ran out and yelled at them and told them to share it with the smaller kids. Then all these other children started coming up to us asking us for food, and we had to say, "sorry, you didn't help us, and we have nothing else to give you." Note to self: Don't give children bread. If you do give them bread, split it up yourself and give it to them. Don't give them bread in front of other hungry children. We looked like horrible, unfair, angry toubabs, and we were only trying to be nice. ** We cooked dinner, and somehow, I managed to spray tomato sauce all over Angela and the wall, causing a HUGE amount of ants to come out of the walls and ceiling and attack the tomato sauce. I'm telling you, I've never had heebie-jeebies as bad as last night when I looked up and saw my entire ceiling covered in teeny ants. They had been falling on my head and shoulders... It was one of the most disgusting moments of my entire life. They all died, of course. I love Raid. It also didn't help that yesterday was Lariam day, and my parinoia of bugs was at an all-time high. The side effects of Lariam seem to have gone beyond nightmares and have created a strong parinoia and fear of bugs. It's mainly at night, but it does affect my sleeping habits and overall feeling of well-being. But I must say, it's better than getting malaria, but it ain't no fun. |
