I was warned about water outages in the country. Almost everyone I know has had them. I am experiencing my first one today. It was out when I woke up this morning. Granted, that was only six hours ago, but I already feel disgusting. I'm dirty! I'm thirsty! I need water to cook my food! I've got some containers with enough water to last me a few days... but what if the outage lasts longer than that? I know I came to this country to experience extreme discomfort, but I am realizing that it's just no fun. I thought last week was bad when there were no potatoes in the market. This week there are no onions. But there are two different kinds of melons, star fruits and pineapples to keep my belly happy. .. Every day I speak at least three different languages. English, French, Wolof and Mandinka. A little boost to the self confidence when you can communicate with all sorts of people. .. The waves in the ocean are big. I'm talking HUGE. I'm talking friends of mine have had to do handstands to get water out of places on their bodies after swimming for thirty minutes. I stay water that's below my waist, and the waves still crash over my head. It's too dangerous to be really fun, but I still go in anyway. .. The dry season has arrived. The humidity level has decreased a lot, though the air is still very hot, it's more bareable now. I miss the rain already though. |
